Scale Guide
Scales can be a bit confusing at first, so let's go over them to help you make the best choice.
In simple terms, scales are usually represented as ratios or fractions, like 1/4 or 1:4, and sometimes with measurements in cm or inches. Here, we mainly use fractions to describe scales. This fraction tells you how the figure’s size compares to the real-life, full-sized version (1:1). For example:
The average person is around 5 to 6 feet tall (152–183 cm). Let’s assume a full-sized person is 6 feet tall (183 cm) for simple math. To calculate the figure’s height, divide the real height by the scale. So, a 6-foot (183 cm) person at 1/6 scale would be 1 foot tall (12 inches or 30 cm).
Quick Scale Guide:
To help you out, here’s a chart showing approximate figure heights for popular scales. Note: if a character is larger than an average person (like the Hulk), the figure will be larger at the same scale. Smaller characters (like Rocket Raccoon) will be shorter.
- 1/3 Scale – 24 inches (61 cm)
- 1/4 Scale – 18 inches (46 cm)
- 1/5 Scale – 15 inches (38 cm)
- 1/6 Scale – 12 inches (30 cm)
- 1/9 Scale – 9 inches (23 cm)
- 1/12 Scale – 6 inches (15 cm)
Assembly Guide
Unpainted Garage Kits:
Unpainted garage kits are perfect for collectors who enjoy building and customizing their figures from scratch. These kits come in parts and require assembly, along with some finishing work. Here’s an overview of the key steps involved in assembling garage kits:
- Trimming and Sanding – Remove any excess resin or mold lines, and smooth the edges for a precise fit.
- Filling Gaps – Use putty or filler to fill in any visible gaps between parts, creating a seamless look.
- Pinning – Reinforce connections with small pins, especially for larger or heavier parts, to keep everything secure.
- Priming and Painting – Prime the surface to prepare for painting, then paint each part to match your desired look.
- Gluing and Final Assembly – Once painted, glue the pieces together with model glue or epoxy for a durable finish.
- Detailing – Add extra details, like decals or weathering effects, to personalize and enhance the figure.
Unpainted kits give you the chance to fully customize your figure but require some modelling skills and tools.
Painted Figures:
Painted figures come pre-painted and typically require very minimal assembly. However, fragile or delicate pieces that could be damaged during shipping may be packed separately. In these cases, a small amount of glue may be needed to attach these pieces, ensuring they’re secure and ready for display.
